Data Quality Information

1.    How reliable are the data? What check, comparisons, or tests have been used to check the data for reliability? No change

2.    What are the limitations or inconsistencies of the dataset? This is in case part of the data has not been checked for attribute accuracy, or the positional accuracy for part of the dataset is not as accurate as the other part of it.  No change

3.    What is the positional accuracy of the data? No change

4.    What is the attribute accuracy of the data? No change

5.    Was the geographic consistency of the data verified? No change

6.    Is the dataset complete?

This statewide dataset was completed in 2013.  Work continues to add or remove wellhead protection areas to the dataset as necessary with the construction of new public water supply wells or the removal of wells from service.  Periodic updates are provided on a routine basis with the dissemination of updates for public consumption on a quarterly basis.

7.    What is the location of the source materials used to create the dataset?

Source materials used in creation of the wellhead protection area is housed in the Office of Drinking Water and Municipal Assistance program files, 4th Floor, South Tower, Constitution Hall

8.    What sequences of events or tasks were completed to create this dataset?

·         A shapefile of wellhead protection areas are received from hydrogeological consultants or created by ODWMA staff using the Michigan Groundwater Management Tool modeling software

·         Attribute information within the provided shapefile is updated as necessary to obtain consistency with the information and structure of the statewide shapefile

·         The shapefile provided is than merged with the existing statewide shapefile of existing wellhead protection areas

Spatial Data Organization

1.    Is this a raster or vector dataset? No change

2.    Approximately how many, and what kinds, of spatial objects (points, lines, polygons) are included in the dataset?

There are currently 2578 polygons in the dataset.  The 2578 polygons spatially depict 54 low vulnerability wellhead areas, 890 Type I provisional wellhead protection areas, 1278 Type II provisional wellhead protection areas and 356 traditionally delineated wellhead protection areas.

Spatial Reference

Entity and Attribute Information

1.    What geographic entities are described?  No change

2.    Describe ALL the attributes (These are the TITLES for the columns in the Attribute Table). If the attributes have codes that populate the fields, and are used to describe the entries, list those codes.

·         FID – feature identification, number describing the sequential creation of the wellhead protection areas

·         Shape – the wellhead protection areas, they all exist as polygons

·         Area – the area of the wellhead protection area in square miles computed in creation and update of the statewide shapefile

·         WSSN – the water supply serial number, a unique numeric identifier for every public water supply system in Michigan

·         System – the system name given to the public water supply

·         Type – the type of wellhead protection area reflecting the manner in which the wellhead protection area was created

·         Date – the data the wellhead protection area was added to the statewide dataset

3.    What do the codes mean? Explain what the coded entries mean for the attributes that populate the attribute table.  No change
